Description
Geneticin (G418) Sulfate | SC-29065
Geneticin (G418) Sulfate, also designated Antibiotic G418, is an aminoglycoside antibiotic that has originally been derived from Micromonospora rhodoranga NRRL 5326. Geneticin (G418) Sulfate has been shown to cause a bypass of nonsense mutations during translation. Experiments have shown that Geneticin (G418) Sulfate inhibits the incorporation of amino acids into protein and can destroy fibroblasts. Mechanistic studies suggest that Geneticin (G418) Sulfate affects the 80S ribosome and inhibits the elongation cycle. Further studies report that Geneticin (G418) Sulfate is highly active against amoebae, protozoa, tapeworm, and pinworm exposed murine cells.
