The Tribo™ Nucleic Acid Precipitation Enhancer (NAPE) is a highly purified inert carrier to enhance the recovery of nucleic acid (RNA and DNA) in alcohol precipitation. It is a formulated solution of glycogen. Glycogen is insoluble in ethanol or isoproanol and forms a precipitate that traps the nucleic acids in solution, forming a visible pellet by centrifugation. Therefore, this product is suitable to precipitate RNA and DNA. Glycogen is a totally inert polysaccharide. It will not interfere with any subsequent reaction; therefore, normally it is not necessary to remove it from nucleic acid preparations. It is different from tRNA, yeast RNA or sonicated DNA as a carrier, because it is less likely to interfere with downstream applications. Picogram amounts of RNA, DNA or oligonucleotides can be precipitated using NAPE.
