The EasyNAT IVDR accredited system is a closed, molecular genetic platform, using the extraction, LAMP amplification and detection.
EasyNAT is a (POCT) device , directly after adding the unprocessed primary sample to the proprietairy cassette, you add the magnetic bead solution and process the sample is as short as 30 minutes .

What is the difference with GenExpert from Cepheid and EasyNAT from Ustar?

  1. In the EasyNAT protocol has only one simple step more than GenExpert, you need to add the magnetic beads into the cassette. All else is the same.
  2. The EasyNAT reagents come at 10 Euro a test while the Cepheid are at 35 euro a test.

Is EasyNAT quantitative?

Allthough the LAMP curve has no Ct values and the ramp is steep a difference can be seen between early ramp for high load samples medium and slow ramp time.

Can I get the DNA out from the Easynat casette to NGS the viral strain?

This is not possible, the DNA sample cannot be extracted from the Ustar very convenient conical casette.

Can I run different samples with the USTAR EastNAT?

Yes, in the Quanttro you can run 1,2,3 or 4 samples consecutively or simmultainously. Since the protocol is only 30 to 40 minutes you will have 10 minutes to process 4 samples each 40 minutes consecutively. If you want to process more samples you can use more EasyNAT quattros of use an Octo or 16 sample EasyNAT.

Can I run different Parameters simultanously?

Yes you can lounch for example from the same sample 1 CT/NG, FLUE A B, BP, Malaria in the same time usisng the 4 places of Quattro EasyNAT

Can I run different parameters in one sample?

This is not possible with the EasyNAT but it is possible with the MultNAT


Quality Control and security of of EasyNAT

Each 20 tests come with a positive control with easy scannable barcode that needs to be scanned and runned before any of the 20 tests can be scanned and used. Your EasyNat will not scan a barcode of a new casette if the positive control has not be run first. This is standard for IVDR accreditation.

Every patient barcode can be scanned and assciated to the test results.


  1. The Ustar EasyNAT and MultNAT are good alternatives for the Cepheid GenExpert because the easy interface on the instrument screen and the nearly similar handling and processing time. Both systems are closed LAMP POCT instruments.
  2. Ustar being less used in autumn 2024 has however a good distributor coverage with fast delivery of reagents ( Gentaur), demo units, rental for reagent units and replacements units ( withing 48 hours guarantee)
It has been tested and approved by Sciensano Belgium and the ITG in Antwerp for SARS, CT/NG and Monkeypox.
