BinaxNOW Malaria Antigen Test

The BinaxNOW® Malaria Test is an in vitro immunochromatographic test designed to qualitatively detect circulating Plasmodium antigens in whole, capillary or venous blood (EDTA sample) in individuals showing signs and symptoms of malaria infection. The test targets the HRP II antigen (Histidine-Rich Protein II, or protein rich in histidine II) specific for Plasmodium falciparum (Pf) and a pan-malarial antigen common to the four species of Plasmodium which can cause infection in humans. : P. falciparum, P. vivax (Pv), P. ovale (Po) and P. malariae (Pm).

It is intended to assist in the rapid diagnosis of human malaria infections and in the differential diagnosis of Plasmodium falciparum (P.f.) infections in order to distinguish them from other less virulent malaria infections.
