Abbkine CheKine™ Hydroxyl Free Radical Scavenging Capacity Assay Kit is designed to assess the Hydroxyl Free Radical Scavenging Capacity in the samples.

Background:

The hydroxyl radical, •OH, is the neutral form of the hydroxide ion (OH−), highly reactive (easily becoming hydroxyl groups) and consequently short-lived. However, they form an important part of radical chemistry. Most notably hydroxyl radicals are produced from the decomposition of hydroperoxides (ROOH) or, in atmospheric chemistry, by the reaction of excited atomic oxygen with water. The hydroxyl radical can damage virtually all types of macromolecules: carbohydrates, nucleic acids (mutations), lipids (lipid peroxidation) and amino acids (e.g. conversion of Phe to m-Tyrosine and o-Tyrosine), resulting in cell structure and function damage, and then lead to metabolic disorders. The scavenging ability of hydroxyl radical represents the antioxidant ability, widely used in the research of antioxidant health products and drugs.

• In order to compare the hydroxyl radical scavenging capacity of different samples, serum, tissue homogenate, juice and other liquid samples must add the same volume for the same batch. Exact or Drug must be diluted to the same concentration.
