Tryptone Soy Broth | DM226

Soybean Casein Digest Medium USP, a medium for sterility tests.

Tryptone Soy Broth utilises the pancreatic digest of casein and the soy peptone which are used in Tryptone Soy Agar. Accordingly, the medium will grow many micro-organisms without the addition of blood or serum.
The medium is listed by the U.S. Pharma-copoeia1 as a medium for detecting low level contamination by aerobic bacteria and fungi. The addition of a small amount of agar permits growth of anaerobic strains deep in the broth.
The presence of glucose in the medium, while permitting excellent growth, prohibits its use as a maintenance medium for acid sensitive and fastidious organisms.

Technical Formula

Directions
1. Dissolve 30g of powder in l litre or the contents of the sachet in the stated volume of distilled or deionised water.
2. Distribute into suitable containers.
3. Autoclave at 121°C (15p.s.i.) for 15 minutes.
