Gibberellic Acid (GA3)
Gibberellic Acid (GA3)
A plant growth regulator used in plant tissue culture, seed germination and plant growth research.
Product Overview
Gibberellic Acid (GA3), also known as Gibberellin A3, is a plant hormone that plays an important role in plant growth and development. This tetracyclic diterpenoid compound is involved in processes such as stem elongation, seed germination, flowering and fruit development.
In plant tissue culture, GA3 may be added to suitable growth media to influence cell elongation and support the development of shoots and young plant tissues. Its effects depend on the plant species, culture conditions and concentration used.

- Barley Malting: Gibberellins may be used to stimulate the germination-related processes of dormant barley kernels.
General Tissue Culture Media Preparation
GA3 is commonly incorporated into plant tissue culture media from a prepared plant growth regulator (PGR) stock solution. The appropriate concentration depends on the plant species and experimental protocol.
- Prepare liquid tissue culture medium using MS, DKW or another suitable basal medium.
- Add sugar according to the selected formulation. A common example is 30 g/L.
- If required, add PPM™ according to the laboratory protocol.
- For solid media, add a suitable gelling agent, such as 3–4 g/L Gellan Gum or 6–8 g/L agar, as a starting formulation.
- Prepare or use a suitable GA3 stock solution and add the required amount to achieve the desired final concentration.
- Mix thoroughly and sterilize the medium using a validated protocol appropriate for the formulation.
GA3 may be sensitive to sterilization conditions. Follow the validated protocol for your application to determine whether it should be filter-sterilized and added after the medium has cooled. Do not assume that every GA3 formulation should be autoclaved directly.
