Description
Protein A is a cell wall protein derived from Staphylococcus aureus that exhibits unique binding properties for IgG from a variety of mammalian species and for certain IgM and IgA as well. It binds with the fc region of immunoglobulins preferably through interaction with the heavy chain. It is conjugated to a wide variety of reporter molecules, including fluorescent dyes, enzyme labels, biotin, colloidal gold, and radioactive iodine for use in immunology and other biological research without affecting the binding site of antibody. rat-PA is improved in protein stability and tolerant to alkali by substitution of residues. It is also immobilized on solid matirxes such as agarose beads for the purification of IgG from ascetic fluid, serum, cultured supernatants, cell extracts or proteins of interest. For efficient covalent conjugation to the resin, a cysteine residue is inserted at the C-terminus of rat-PA.
