Description

Protein A is a cell wall protein derived from Staphylococcus aureus that exhibits unique binding properties for IgGs from a variety of mammalian species and for some IgM and IgA. It preferentially binds to the Fc region of immunoglobulins by interaction with the heavy chain. It is conjugated to a wide variety of reporter molecules including fluorescent dyes, enzyme labels, biotin, colloidal gold, and radioactive iodine for use in immunology and other biological research without affecting the binding site. of the antibody. It is also immobilized on solid supports such as agarose beads for the total purification of IgG from ascites fluid, serum, culture supernatants and cell extract or protein of interest.
